Golden Retrievers are friendly, loyal and intelligent dogs who make excellent family pets.
They have an outgoing nature and love to interact with people, particularly young children.
The breed originated in Scotland around the 1800s as a hunting dog capable of retrieving game over long distances and through tough terrain.
Their coat is typically golden or cream colored but they can come in dark golden or light golden colors too.
Males weigh between 65–75 lbs (30–34 kg), while females typically weigh 55 – 71 lbs (25 – 32 kg).
Females stand at 20 – 22 inches (51 – 56 cm) tall, while males generally measure 22 – 24 inches (56 – 61 cm).
Golden Retrievers usually live for 10 to 12 years when given proper care and nutrition throughout their lives.
The breed is not considered hypoallergenic due to its thick fur which sheds heavily twice a year during seasonal changes.
