Labrador Retriever Facts & Info

Labrador Retrievers are one of the most popular breeds of dog in the world, and for good reason. They are friendly, intelligent, and trustworthy companions that make great family pets. Labradors have a life expectancy of 10-12 years and come in four colors: black, chocolate, yellow, and creamy white. Males generally weigh between 64 to 79 pounds while females typically weigh between 55 to 71 pounds. Labs usually reach 22 to 24 inches tall at maturity.

The breed is believed to have originated from Newfoundland, England during the early 19th century when small water dogs were crossed with St Johns Dog from Newfoundland. This gave rise to Labrador Retrievers we know today – strong, loyal animals that are known for their kind natures, eagerness to please their owners and fun personalities.

Labs are incredibly loyal and easily trained due to their high intelligence levels which can be seen in their use as therapy dogs and service dogs for people with disabilities or medical conditions. Despite being highly active dogs that need plenty of exercise, they also have an endearing goofiness about them that makes them extremely loveable pets.

Unfortunately it’s worth noting that Labrador Retrievers aren’t hypoallergenic so they may not be suitable if you suffer from allergies but they do make an excellent choice for many households due to their intelligence level and ease of training. Since they were originally bred as retrieving dogs they enjoy tasks such as fetching objects or going on long walks with their owners so you won’t be short of activities to keep your pet entertained!

Overall, Labrador Retrievers are an excellent breed of dog that require a lot of love and attention to stay healthy and happy. They make great family pets and will bring joy into your life for many years to come.
